Training your dog

Have you got an unruly dog who needs to go back to basics? Or a well-behaved dog who'd like to learn some new tricks? We’ve got expert tips and videos to help with your training sessions.

How to stop your dog from scavenging

Dogs will gobble up almost anything so it’s important to stop them eating something that could hurt them – whether it’s a poisonous plant or a sharp piece of litter.

So what should you do to try and stop this happening?

Keep your dog on a lead when you walk past a problem area. And have plenty of tiny treats in your pocket to distract them when they start to poke their nose into any potential danger.

The trick is to make responding to you more attractive to them than whatever they’ve found. If you can make sure your dog listens to you and is attentive, you should be able to distract them. You could also try teaching a command like "off" or "leave" - see our Training Academy video to find out how to do this.
