Teach your dog to stand on their hind legs

Here’s another trick your can try with your dog. Learning tricks helps keep your dog’s mind active, and strengthens their relationship with you. Here’s how to teach your dog to stand up on their hind legs:

1. With your dog in front of you, raise a treat above and slightly behind their head. Lift it high enough so your dog has to push up on to their hind legs to reach it. When they do, give the treat.

2. Gradually work on improving your dog’s balance. When they’ve got the idea, add in the command, “stand tall!” With practice, your dog should learn to balance on their hind legs for a couple of seconds or more.

If your dog’s mastered this trick easily and you’d like to take it to the next stage, try our “Play dead” Training Academy video for more ideas.
