Teach your dog to walk backwards

Here’s how to teach your dog to walk backwards

1. Position a couple of cardboard boxes or pieces of furniture with a narrow gap between them.

2. Using a treat, persuade your dog to stand in the gap.

3. Then step towards your dog, “waving” him gently backwards with your hands and saying “go back, go back”.

4. As soon as he takes a few steps backwards, praise and reward him with the treat.

5. When your dog gets used to the trick, try it again without the props.

6. With practice, they’ll learn to walk backwards away from you when they hear the command.
