Microchipping your dog or puppy

Microchipping your dog or puppy

A microchip is a quick, safe and cheap way to permanently identify your pet. The size of a grain of rice, it’s implanted under the skin of your puppy, usually at the back of their neck. Each chip has a unique code that can be identified by a scanner - most vets, police stations, local councils and rescue centres will have a scanner. So if your dog is ever found without their collar, the chip can be used to reunite you.

You can get your dog microchipped by your vet. Or you might find microchipping offered by a local rescue centre, breeder, dog warden, or even at a local dog show.

Remember that even if your dog is microchipped, a collar and identity tag  is still required by law.
